A 2009 published white paper showed that diabetes 2 was reversible, possibly for the first time. Singapore scientists working from Science Park had already showed 7 years ago that diabetes 2 could be reversed through a a change in eating habits. The paper outlining their research was published in European peer reviewed bimonthly journal AgroFOOD industry hi-tech in November, 2009. Sustainable tripartite weight management presented the case of a 59 year old morbidly obese man with a 15 year history of clinically diagnosed diabetes 2. The man’s symptoms were normalised over three years of treatment, which included following a low-carb protein dominant diet based upon the idea of avoiding carbs, chasing protein, enjoying fat, and indulging in fiber. Key clinical markers of diabetes were improved including his liver profile, BMI, and blood sugar level which dropped from 156 to 105. Of particular note was a 25 percent increase in the ratio of muscle to body fat. Weight reduction treatments typically result in a loss of muscle and sometimes actually increase body fat percentage. At the end of the 3-year study the man’s health had improved enough to discontinue or reduce diabetes related medicines.
