Beet is a root vegetable with the ability to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure. One of its key nutrients that contributes to various health benefits is nitrate.
In our body, nitrate converts to nitric oxide, which relaxes and widens the arteries to promote blood flow. With better blood flow, blood pressure can be normalised. It has also been shown that beet reduces oxygen use during exercise therefore improving endurance levels. This is why sporty individuals consume beet for enhanced performance.
